It is no secret how quickly Princess Azula goes through handmaids. And so when Suyin takes up the position after the previous handmaid left the palace in tears, she doesn't expect her employment to be a particularly long one. But warmth and friendship soon take root in the cracks of the princess' facade, piercing through a loneliness she hadn't even realised existed. Mostly canon compliant, but with fluctuations to and from canon, side plots, and divergent character motivations. Significant canon divergence post Book 3 of ATLA (not yet published). This fic serves as a character study for Azula, and explores daily life in the Fire Nation beginning before her introduction in the show. Loosely inspired by Fingersmith / The Handmaiden
