Fics like The Better Part of Valor

Gimli’s friendship with Legolas is accepted if disliked; his reverence for Galadriel understood if mistrusted . . . but there is only so much liberty a lord of a new dwarven colony may be allowed. In a world unforgiving of the depth of their love, the only thing Gimli can think to do is deny it, even if that means breaking both of their hearts. Or so he thinks. But when he sees the depth of his friend’s heartbreak, he knows some other solution must be found instead.
