Companion story to Never Leaving Harmony. Experience the same perilous tale through Bernie's perspective. Carrying the kind of box with your mother inside is one thing. Two years after his mother's death, one of the last pieces of her in his everyday life—a telephone given to him many moons ago—is accidentally destroyed. Carrying the guilt and heartache that falls out of that is another thing. And something he has to do alone. It's essential that he does, because Elton's wellbeing is his priority. What lies hidden in plain sight is far worse than anything he imagined—his mind soon revolves around finding out what's really going on inside his best friend's relationship, and how he can get him out of it. Before it's too late. Light is shed on his own relationship's problems. Disappointments. Deep-rooted deception. With his fears in overdrive, an unexpected reveal of true feelings close to his chest, along with his innate determination to do the right thing, he becomes hell-bent on a master plan that has no clear or happy ending in sight. All the while his own world is plunging into darkness. The box he puts everything into is caving. It's ready to fall apart.
