Fics like you are the reason

Deeply invested in her book, Alyssa smiles when she hears the bathroom door slide open and footsteps pad across the carpet, relaxing when she feels the bed dip next to her and a head fall softly into her lap. Automatically, she reaches out, winding a hand in curly hair and scratching gently at Emma’s scalp. “Hi,” she murmurs. Emma hums, lolling her head over until she can nose at her thigh. “Hi.” The air is soft and warm between them as they just sit in each other’s space, Emma pulling out her phone to meet her daily Candy Crush goal and Alyssa lulled into focusing on her book by the familiar sounds of the game. (Or, a domestic moment of reassurance.)
