Fics like a love like this

Alyssa swings her and Emma’s joined hands together as they walk down the street. It’s late, so late that it could almost be considered early. They’re coming back from the last showing of a movie; the theatre right by their apartment always stays open for an 11pm ticket, and after a long week of teaching for her girlfriend and file-reading and cases for Alyssa, she had only had to put on a pretty dress and a soft smile for Emma to agree to a last minute date. Emma always agrees to go wherever as long as it’s with Alyssa. New York City in the dead of night is truly something special, still buzzing with an energy that only a city that’s known to never sleep could have while simultaneously feeling as though it’s wrapped in a bubble of perfectly frozen time. “I’m kind of hungry,” Emma says as they come up to the crosswalk and wait for the light to turn green. “Me too,” Alyssa laughs, squeezing her hand. “Pizza?” (Or, the one where they go on a date, but by the end of the night, there's something much more special they'll remember it for, something that will affect the rest of their lives.)
