Fics like Cold Case, Cold Night

Ages ago, he would have pictured himself as a badass cop. searching through halls with his hand around his gun, looking for perps to catch and hostages to save, being admired as a legend once backup arrived. But this was not a film, but the cold, harsh face of reality. No backup was coming, there was no weapon on his hands except for a rusty pipe, and he didn't feel cool, just pained and terrified. In this story, he is mortified and doesn't believe in a hopeful outcome. But he has to stay alive. Prompt: Jake gets kidnapped and tortured by a perp while the squad tries to solve the case and save him.
