Fics like A String to be Plucked

Lan Wangji is accosted as he locks up the music academy by a man covered in paint, begging to enroll his son. The enrollment period has passed. He can't possibly agree. But then the man shows him a video of the boy, the delight on his face as he plays, and Lan Wangji sees the potential there. “Thank you! Thank you! This is the best day, I can’t wait to tell a-Yuan! He’s going to flip! We’ll be here tomorrow, 3pm, right? You won’t regret it! He’s gonna be your best student! I’ve gotta go pick him up from daycare, I’m already late, they’re probably gonna kick him out if I don’t get there, like, fifteen minutes ago. Thanks again!” And then, the man is gone, without so much as a proper goodbye or, really, an introduction.
