Maruki’s dream world proves difficult to wake from, leaving Akira to face the doctor without the aid of The Phantom Thieves. At least he has Akechi, as strange as it is to take comfort from his would-be murderer. In a perfect dream, his friends don’t need him. It’s him and Akechi against the world. Maybe Akira is being selfish, as it seems this soft reality has nothing for him, but he can’t let Maruki lie to them, even if it’s a beautiful lie. Isolated from his friends, Akira begins to grapple with his humanity.
