Fics like Guess This Is the Winter

“It’s actually painful, how hard David pushes himself. A sharp turn here, a steep hill there—he rushes through them faster than he has ever before. Every trip is a personal record to beat, every cycle of peddling needs to be faster and stronger than the last. Of course, when Matteo bikes with him it’s fun, but when it’s by himself, it’s almost life and death. Someone once told him that he relies too much on the adrenaline, that he should cut back on the search for it. He never listened to them. He rationalizes pushing his own physical boundaries by telling himself: there are those who rely on substance––on drugs, on alcohol––but David would never let himself get there. He relies on his body and its boundaries, shaping them however the hell he wants and needs to.”
