Fics like I think you're my best friend

He’d already resigned himself to scratched furniture and tripping over crinkly toys, but Theo surprised him by running to the back of the cages, where they came face to face with what had to be the ugliest cat Buck had ever seen. He had comically short legs attached to a pillow-like body and a disproportionately small head. He was grey and white, or had been at some point, but the white had turned the pale yellow of old insulation. His eyes were also yellow and crusty and they were the same shade as his long snaggletooth. “That’s Gerard,” one of the shelter workers told them, and if that wasn’t the most fitting name. Gerard started awake at her voice with an irritable grunt, and God, it even sounded like him. “Nooo, his name is Kitty!” Theo insisted, grinning toothily, and oh, Buck hadn’t seen that smile in way too long. He supposed Gerard would be it for them. Theo ends up falling for a crusty senior cat but it takes some time for him to come around. Sicktember Day 13. An unusually shy character begins to curl up to the sick character more.
