Fics like The Taming of the Archivist

Martin leaves the city to go live in a small town, hoping the change of pace will help him make more human connections after years of loneliness caring for his mother. He immediately befriends Tim and Sasha but they, as well as the other villagers, warn him to stay out of the woods after dark because monsters lurk there. Martin brushes this off as superstition. Alas, there are monsters in the woods and when he goes through them to get home earlier to his mother, he gets waylaid by a certain hungry Archivist.
