Fics like The Conqueror Worm

Josephine Arden, a young professor of English at Emory University, lives her life alone. Her closest forms of companionship come from distanced professional relationships, a brother who lives across the ocean, and her polite next-door neighbor. As the Wildfire virus begins to circulate and the dead begin to walk, Josephine is saved by her own ability to rationalize everything as she sees it. In the early days of the apocalypse, people struggle to adapt. Some people are adverse to change. Others are outright unable to. But Josephine adjusts the same way she always has: by thinking herself into a way of surviving. Grounded by moral obligation and internal philosophical expectations, yet leashed by an intimate knowledge of human behavior and apprehension towards her fellow survivors, Josephine meets Daryl Dixon. Someone who appears to be her opposite at a glance, but someone who proves himself to be more like her than she'd anticipated. This story is a prequel to The Walking Dead (TV). This is the first entry in a collection.
