Enid tried to fool herself, really. She pretended that walking every day at the rise of the sun to Ophelia Beach was only because she liked to hear the waves as the seagulls sang when they awoke, or because the breeze hit differently when you were up there so early. Walking down that same, long pathway, her heart raced at just the thought of sitting down beside the railings. Because she was a fool. The worst of them all. Wednesday Addams and her were always the only ones out here this early. Enid had walked here once right before that fateful night of their first eye to eye encounter, surprised to have found the same dark girl skating all alone. Serene. It’s embarrassing, but ever since she realized Wednesday only showed up to the park early in the morning, she’s been showing up here too. To watch. Only to watch. Or Enid encounters the one thing she can’t run away from, at the old, rusty skatepark.
