Fics like You know that we can, you and me, can write a new book (Stand here like a unicorn)

Steve realises, maybe too late, that he never actually came out to Nancy. Obviously he came out to Robin before he even realised that’s what it was, when he was just trying to make sense of his feelings. They drove to Indy and scoured the bookstores Robin had heard of until they found the right term that explained everything and made Steve feel settled in his skin for maybe the first time in his life, like he hadn’t even realised it wasn’t right until he had the words to explain. Not wrong, not weird, just him. Something he was not only allowed to be, but could just be, another facet of his existence. Or, Steve is the first one to come out. It's completely unrelated to why Nancy's sitting here stressed in a way he's never seen her before asking him not to hate her after.
