Fics like By the Truth of Virtue

“We are very proud of you, my son. You are strong, you are kind, and you are brave. I will carry you with me for the rest of my days,” Changbin’s mother murmurs quietly against Changbin’s ear, hugging him tightly in return. Even Changbin’s father, who isn’t one for hugs, steps forward to wrap his arms around his small family. “You will bring great honor to our family, son. You have always been special,” he says somberly. Changbin soaks up their words and their touch like a sponge, letting it ground him as best as he can. “Think of me when you see a beautiful sunrise. Or a beautiful flower. Remember me,” Changbin nearly begs. Or: Changbin is selected to be his villages human sacrifice after a famine wipes out the rest of the prime options. He expects a swift death, but instead meets the very deity he's being sacrificed to. In the end, maybe being a sacrifice isn't all bad.
