Fics like The Ghosts On My Skin

There were few things in Peter’s childhood he didn’t like to dwell on. His parents' deaths were obviously at the top of that list, tied with Uncle Ben’s. Below that was the day he got bit by a spider and the two weeks after it, involving fevers and chills and vomiting and all that jazz. Other than that, Peter loved to reminisce on his memories - even the bad, because within them he could always find something bright - and tell stories of his life to others, like an elderly man recounting the tales of his adventurous life. Early Onset Nostalgia, as MJ liked to call it. However, there was one other topic that Peter pushed into that small box in the back of his mind. When he was seven, he was briefly in the foster care system. Apparently, adoption processes are more difficult than they seem. May and Ben had promised it’d be no more than a couple months - that part was true - and that it’d maybe even be fun. That was where they were so terribly wrong. The months he’d spent in that home, the man he’d spent them with… They painted his nightmares and framed all his fears. Sometimes, if he closed his eyes at the wrong moment, he could swear that he was still there, in that home, too young to know what was happening to him.
