Fics like The Temple of the Quiet Storm

Mark Holt died on a Tuesday afternoon when he touched a broken high pressure valve, then had a talk with a glowing orange fox, and found himself in a world straight out of a movie. After an incident in a rural farming village on the outskirts, the temple had to decide what to do with the monster they found there. He chose training over prison, and built a decent life training in martial arts. Three years later the Chosen One arrived. He's talented beyond reason, impossibly bright, beloved by everyone, and exactly what this world has always produced when it needed saving, which means that something is going to happen that requires it. Mark watches him surpass in one season what it took him years to accomplish, and discovers his old wounds followed him across the in-between. At the edge of the map an ancient foe awakens, and the Chosen One is destined to defeat him. It'll be fine, right? Right?
