Fics like leave the light on

“AJ?” AJ blinks, eyes adjusting to the low light no longer immersed in strange colours and echoing noise. She can hear the gentle ebb of water, smell the salt in the air. Her head feels heavy, like someone filled all her sinuses with cotton, and her mouth is dry, a lingering taste of something iron, something old and rotten on her tongue. A harsh ache coarses through her legs, deeper than her usual decay; tell-tale signs she’s been walking for days on end again. But she can’t recall the journey, can’t remember when she left, where she was going. At least she’s not by the Crypt. Small miracles, and all that. Actually, she’s pretty sure she’s in Basketon, if Magpie calling out to her is any indication. She can see the docks, and feel the bay against her skin. Basketon. She’s in Basketon. Okay, that’s fine. AJ can work with that. -- Or: AJ finds herself lost by Megii's side in Basketon.
