Fics like keep a leftover light burning (so you can keep looking up).

“You fell out of the sky,” you stress. You point outside, heart jackhammering in your chest. “Out there. In the middle of a storm, in a halo of green light.” He brushes it off, shifting to peer out the nearest window, to the stretch of drenched yard and cornfields that go as far as the eye can see. His voice is weary and humoured, when he says, “Yeah, well, I happen to do that sometimes.” “You know what else falls out of the sky? Into cornfields in the dead of night? Aliens.” That snaps him out of his reverie. He throws you a look, an eyebrow raised that says more than anything. “Do I look like an alien to you?” . When the Green Lantern crash-lands in the field behind your house during a storm, it’s up to you to nurse him back to health. And try to push back any encroaching feelings you might develop for him in the meantime.
