When Eddie and Christopher return to Los Angeles, Buck hands over the keys to the house with a tight smile and a casual, “Place is yours again, man,” as if moving out hadn't quietly broken something inside him. What Eddie doesn't know is that Buck never actually found a new place. For months, Buck has been living out of his Jeep, keeping his belongings in a storage unit and pretending everything is fine. He still shows up to work, still jokes with the team, still makes time for Eddie and Christopher, but he refuses to let anyone see just how badly he's struggling. Eventually, Eddie starts to notice the cracks. And when the truth finally comes out, so does everything Buck has been carrying since the funeral, including the belief that Eddie's grief-stricken words in the kitchen afterwards were proof that he was simply too much for the people he loves. But Eddie isn't going to let Buck believe that anymore. Because Buck isn't a burden. He isn't a failure. And he certainly isn't sleeping in his Jeep another night. He's home. And this time, Eddie intends to make sure he knows it.
