Fics like Invisible Airwaves

AU, no band, 1979 NYC ☆ Hemispheres/Permanent Waves era Alex Lifeson is a hotshot music editor at Roll the Bones magazine, freshly promoted and walking on air. It’s autumn, the decade’s on its deathbed, rock music is evolving overnight, and America’s youth is on fire with disco and angst. For Alex, New York City is a drunken whirlwind of bad decisions and huge opportunities compared to his humble beginnings in Canada…and the constant action is finally starting to weigh on him. Geddy Lee is a beloved late-night radio personality at WYYZ 21.12 FM. Perpetually homesick for nowhere in particular, he craves connection off the air, wishing he could conjure confidence outside his safe, sound-proofed radio station. It seems as if he has it all, with a cozy downtown apartment and a music nerd’s dream job, but he can’t help but wonder if there’s more for him out there. Alex wants to slow down. Geddy wants to pick up the pace. Falling in love is on neither of their radars...
