Fics like "Aghh," or: The Very Overdue Realization and Subsequent Actions of One Adm. James Kirk

The realization struck him sometime after three o'clock on a Wednesday, just as he was in the middle of tidying his desk at Starfleet HQ. Maybe, for anyone else, it wouldn't have come as quite so much of a surprise, but Admiral James T. Kirk, former starship captain and five-time winner of the Federation Bugle’s Most Eligible Bachelor award (some thirty-five years ago, at least), was much-versed in the skills of repression and denial, and when the revelation hit, it hit him hard: butterflies, flushed cheeks, shaking hands — the whole shebang — and no matter how he tried to phrase it to himself, the words didn't make any more sense than they did from the get-go. He was in love with Spock. He was in love with Spock. He was in love with Spock. Absolute nonsense.
