Just before the last -and steepest- step, as instinct took over, his hands came to brace his face from colliding with the stone below. His hands, clutching his wand and the prophecy tightly, bore the weight of his fall, smashing to the bottom in a sudden heap. The glass of the orb shattered, he felt the shards rip at his face, tearing apart his cheeks, painful and jarring. He gasped, a sharp intake of air, and the mist within the spun glass orb that had just escaped its confinement filled his lungs. Or Harry Potter, at the end of Order of the Phoenix, breaks the prophecy and for some reason, is tossed through time, ending up in 1942. Looking for a way back to his time, he heads to Hogwarts, despite wanting nothing to do with Tom Riddle, the boy who will become the Dark Lord and ruin his and so many others’ lives. Of course, he is never so lucky, and as he searches for his way back through time, he unwittingly (and begrudgingly) garners the attention Tom Riddle himself.
