Fics like Phoenix Burn and Burst

An explosion rang, blowing dust and debris into the air. Ace's eyes flew open searching for the sound of the explosion that woke him up. He looks around annoyed trying to find the stupid marine that set off a cannonball or some other weapon. The villagers around him scrambled and ran out of the town away from the explosion. Ace lifts himself up, placing his hat on his head and cracking his neck as he walks to the explosion. “Ace!” A voice calls out. Ace grins and waves up in the sky where a flying Marco was located. “Hey Marco, did you have any idea what that was?! It couldn't be the marines not with Pops here!” Ace questions. “I’m trying to figure that out too” Marco yells as he flies ahead. Ace laughs, beginning to jog after the phoenix. After running a few minutes the smell of blood hits Ace's nose and Marco dives. Ace pushes the shrubs and branches out of the way spotting burned and blackened grass still smoking. In the middle of the blackened area a figure rests Marco lands and lunges forward. “Shit”. Ace follows after Marco lunges for the stranger bleeding out in the middle of nowhere.
