Fics like Protocols Unknown: A Lost Future

“Bigger Than the Whole Sky” – Taylor Swift TEA AND TISSUES bring them! Several months after Kathryn and Chakotay finally choose each other, an unexpected pregnancy changes the shape of the future they had only just begun to imagine. Some futures are easier to plan for than others. Content warning: This story contains pregnancy and miscarriage at fifteen weeks. Medical treatment following pregnancy loss, physical recovery and parental grief. The medical details are not graphic, but the loss and its immediate aftermath are central to the story. Where this fits: This story takes place inside the “several months later” gap in Chapter 38 of A Decision of the Stars, after Kathryn and Chakotay find their way back to each other in Indiana and before Q arrives with news of Astrea. It fills in part of that missing time rather than changing the events of Chapter 38. The pregnancy hinted at in the final scene of Chapter 38 remains exactly as written.
