Fics like Ours, Only For a Moment

Arthur Morgan spends his life mistaking love for weakness, burying what he feels for John Marston beneath anger, loyalty, and the safer lie of brotherhood, until one disaster after another strips those defenses down to the bone. From the frozen terror of Colter to the fragile warmth of Horseshoe and Clements Point, their love grows in the places neither man dares to name it: in bloodied snow, careful hands, a gifted rifle, laughter by the water, and kisses stolen from a world already closing in. But shame proves nearly as ruthless as any bullet: it drives John away, follows Arthur through Guarma’s heat and ruin, and turns every death, betrayal, and poisoned word from Dutch and Micah into proof that fear can destroy love long before the body gives out. When Arthur finally chooses John without flinching, it is too late to save them both, but not too late to give love its truest shape: a horse driven through rain, a satchel forced into John’s hands, one last order to live, and a death endured with the fragile mercy of knowing that somewhere below the mountain, the man he loves still has a road ahead of him.
