Fics like Rainbow in the Dark

"Is there anything we can do in the meantime?" Eddie asked, his voice hoarse and a little desperate. "I mean, therapy is great, it's necessary, I know. But my instincts can't handle seeing him like this. Seeing him so sad, so lifeless... Every day... It's like my chest is being ripped out. I'd do anything. Anything." The therapist watched him closely, weighing his words. She could see the devotion in the way Eddie leaned protectively over Steve, as if afraid Steve might disappear. They were both marked; they were mates in every sense of the word. "There's something that might help," she said at last, taking off her glasses to clean them with a handkerchief. "Young children have a special energy. Their scents are soft, sweet; they don't pose a threat to a grieving Omega. Caring for them might reawaken something in Steve. I'm not saying it will replace what you've lost, nothing can do that. But it could be a balm. A distraction. A reminder that life goes on."
