Fics like A Land That’s Never Known the Cold.

If someone who had only been here for three months, only having unlocked his magic in that time, only had that time to train it, and having no formal swordsmanship or combat training whatsoever in that time, let alone before the academy (because despite the strength and raw skill behind his blows, they are still fairly unrefined), could beat him, someone who had been trained since childhood for all of those things? Who had seen war and battle and betrayal more than most? (Who had seen more death than most, too. After all, one doesn’t become the last of their cohort for no reason). It terrifies them. Scott is strong. Stronger than someone who’s had magic for such a short time should be. Orrrrrrr Osteons reaction to the implications of Scott beating him in the duel and of what that could mean. (spoilers for recent Bandit raid stream)
