Soap does his research whenever he encounters something strange. By his best guess, with what little he knows of Simon's bloody and fraught history, and from observing Ghost, he thinks he's dealing with a doppelgänger. A manifestation of something darker, a little more alien, forged when on the very edge of death, half a soul lost to the afterlife while the rest remained to power its human body, doggedly forcing itself to survive. Depending on the culture, doppelgängers are either a ghostly mimic, or a manifestation of a spiritual twin - able to share memories and feelings, but often bringing bad luck or representing the 'evil' side of the person it haunts. In some cultures, this spirit is not malicious, but more often than not they are frightening, and cause distress to the victim of their mimicry as well as those around them. Personally, he doesn't think Ghost is inherently malicious. He doesn't go out of his way to cause Simon trouble, or behave in any way that feels out of character for Simon aside from his Otherness, which isn't something he can help. Animals sense oncoming rain, liminal spaces cause an instinctive crawl of fear beneath the bones, and Ghost unsettles people. That's just the facts of life.
