Like romantically?” Buck questioned, the anxiety thick on his tone as he awaited a response. “Yes,” Maddie replied quick enough that Buck wouldn’t be able to hear the lie in there, and in years to come if you were to ask Maddie about this moment she’d probably lie again and tell you she doesn’t know why she did what she did. But in reality she knows. She knows all too well why she lied. She wants her brother to be happy and with his memories he’s got too much at stake to try and get that happiness so she’s taking matters into her own hands for better or for worse. “I was hoping that’d be the case,” Buck smiled his truest grin of the day, content in the knowledge that he’d woken up in a better life than the one he remembered.
