Fics like In Defense of the Ork: A Serious Argument for an Unserious Utopia

Warhammer 40K is a universe painstakingly designed to make everyone miserable. Somehow, entirely by accident, it may also contain one of science fiction’s most successful utopias. This began as a joke about Orks being the only people genuinely enjoying the grim darkness of the far future. Unfortunately, the more seriously I took Orkish biology, psychology, morality, and their peculiar relationship with reality, the worse the problem became. If morality is even slightly contextual, I regret to inform you that the giant green football hooligan mushrooms may be happy, fulfilled, aggressively altruistic moral paragons. I would very much like someone to explain why I’m wrong.
