Fics like A False Ascension - Book I: Surrender / Liberation

They surrender and call it liberation. They destroy themselves and call it transcendence. They fall and call it ascension. One minute, I was living an ordinary life. The next, I woke aboard a Sith Lord’s warship in a galaxy that shouldn’t exist. I should have known nothing about this galaxy. Somehow, pieces of it kept feeling familiar—recognition without memory, knowledge without any idea where I’d learned it. Then Darth Voren made me his apprentice. I never chose the title. I was beginning to understand how little that mattered when someone else had the power to decide for me. I don’t want to be Sith. I just want my choices to matter. But the stronger I become, the harder Voren is willing to fight to keep making them for me. I used to think the dangerous moment was losing control. Crossing the edge. Letting anger, fear, or desperation decide for me. I’m learning that losing control isn’t the same thing as falling. The choices I make when I have control might matter far more. Whatever walks out of this mess is still going to be me—just with a much worse resume.
