Fics like at the beach (in every life)

Ethan Winters looks like a ghost. It’s an unfair thought, Piers thinks, but not a wrong one. Ethan Winters looks like a ghost; like he’s a breath away from collapsing under his own weight; like he’s had a fundamental piece of himself ripped away, torn apart, burnt to ash and scattered in the winds of who he used to be. He shakes the thought off and smiles, open and easy, extending his hand. Winters doesn’t so much as blink at the prosthesis, but he doesn’t close the gap, either. He just stares, dull and blank, until Piers lets his hand fall awkwardly back to his side. “Piers,” Piers offers after a beat of silence. “Piers Nivans. Chris should’ve told you I would be coming?”
