Fics like Axel's Angel

Living a life that seems a constant game of dog eat dog, aspiring music producer Axel's only real friend is the one who dutifully listens as he unburdens his grievances to him in his dreams each night: a plucky, kindhearted soul whose teasing encouragements, unfailing support, and impassioned ire on his behalf slowly thaw Axel’s frozen heart. Maybe a little too well, in fact, as Axel soon finds himself yearning for his dream companion outside of his nighttime hours. It’s too bad his friend is just a dream—a vague apparition whose grinning face is never clearly visible with all the sunlight enshrouding his angelic form. A mere figment of Axel’s subconscious desire for companionship, manifested in the one place where his heart can’t lie to him… or so Axel’d thought. Until one day, he appears while Axel is awake, a fleeting flash of unmistakable gold that Axel fails to catch before he disappears into the throng—surreal, but undeniably his angel, prompting Axel to scour the campus for the one and only person who's ever made him feel worth a damn.
