There was the twelve-week affair neither of them ever really got over. Manchester. Richmond. The lines Roy kept drawing because he thought they were safer. The things Jamie kept pretending didn’t hurt. Now Roy is Jamie’s manager, Jamie is no longer twenty-three, and both of them are running out of ways to call whatever this is anything other than what it has always been.
