Fics like Gently

He had known something was wrong when the front door opened and shut downstairs, and that familiar gait (worn Oxfords, soles replaced twice, more wear on one side than the other) had made its way up the stairs to their sitting room in complete silence. John Watson did not enter their home silently. He whistled, he hummed, he muttered under his breath. He shouted questions up the stairs so that he might have an answer as he walked into the room. He complained about the rain, the wind, the Krauts and the blackouts, about damned impertinence and stuff and nonsense. He entered the room blank-faced and made a beeline straight for him, before Holmes could even work to deduce where he had been, and those careful hands fisted themselves into Holmes’ dressing gown, pulling him down and kissing him. *** A slightly angstier interpretation of the prompt than was perhaps expected, but all will be resolved softly and sweetly!
