Fics like The Best

Shane is a competitive person. He always has been. In professional avenues it has always been an asset. He would not have gotten nearly as far in hockey as he has without the obsessive need to win that boils in his blood. But personally, not so much. “You make it not fun anymore, Shane.” The neighbor boy had informed him irritatedly. Winning is fun, Shane had thought to himself. Being the best is fun. What’s the point otherwise? It had hurt when he was young, the invisible wall he had felt solidify between himself and his peers. As he got older, more entrenched in true competitive hockey, the old hurt faded, though the wall between himself and the people around him had seemed to stay. But he was the best. That was what mattered. He was the best. So yes, Shane was competitive. In everything. And that’s what it really boiled down to, not jealousy, never jealousy. He and Rozanov were fuck buddies, what did he have to be jealous about?
