Fics like Shattered Glass Reflections

“Hey, Bruce? What’s with the red and yellow glass statue you have in a case in your basement?” Terry asks. “And why is it all broken?” “Don’t touch that.” Bruce surges to his feet. “You’re not allowed to touch it. “ “Why?” Terry asks again, crossing his arms. “What’s so important about it?” Bruce takes a deep breath. Wally’s still alive- he has to be, the fragments occasionally reconfigure themselves and continue to give off energy- but it’s getting harder and harder to hold onto hope that he’ll ever wake up. Or that the electromagnetic pulses are anything more than the last twitchings of a body that hasn’t realized it’s dead yet. “That, Terry, is… the last remnants I have of an old friend.” Bruce says quietly. “One long before your time. And extremely prone to random electromagnetic fluctuations. So don’t touch it.” “Oh.” Terry says, and the room falls silent. (Or: Batman Beyond, if Wally West was there and more eldritch than usual.)
