“Dean? Dean, what’s wrong?” Sam asked, his voice shrill from fear and sleep. Dean turned his terrified gaze to their father. Sam didn’t understand it. Their father’s familiar scent— usually a powerful mix of gunpowder and herbs— was angry. It poured into the air like it was trying to snuff out the apple smell, hard around the edges and completely overwhelming. It made Sam’s eyes water. It was making Dean’s hands shake harder. OR Dean presents early, and Sam can't understand why everyone seems so upset about it.
