Fics like A Very Bad Beginning

Before continuing, ask any stable person "Should I read?" and they will tell you to put this down and read something more pleasant instead. If you wanted a story with a happy ending, you would better off reading something else, for the tale of the Baudelaires and Quagmires is dreadful, melancholy and calamitous a word which here means 'dreadful and melancholy'. There are no happy endings here. Not only that, but there are also no happy beginnings and very few happy middles. My name is Lemony Snicket, and it is my solemn duty to document the sorry lives of these poor children. Or: The Baudelaires and Quagmires are both sent to live with Count Olaf.
