when it happens, it’s quick. blink and you’ll miss it, the way party grabs him by the back of his head to bring their faces closer together. he turns ghoul in his hand and ducks in, bites the apple of ghoul’s cheek. let’s him go just as quick. a practiced but perhaps not frequent gesture, it makes cherri’s stomach flip all the same. another stolen moment that was never meant to be his, yet the image commits itself to memory almost instantly. behind closed doors. playing house, playing pretend. this is a world he does not belong in. watching the whole scene play out in real time registers to him as more perverse than any time he’s been entangled with the both of them, stripped naked with cloying mouths and exploratory hands.
