Fics like You talk of the pain like it's all alright

Ilya stays quiet as he works through the words. He takes a deep breath, “My birthday is in June, at end of season. My mama would make the day special… but after she… afterwards... my father was not as nice. Sometimes if the season did not go well, I don’t need to celebrate.” “You didn’t need to? Or you didn’t get to?” Shane gets his hand squeezed again in lieu of an answer. “So, this week, you said you didn’t have a good season, that’s why you don’t want to do anything?” Ilya pauses, “I never said do nothing, I just do not think I need it this year,” ------- After getting kicked out of the playoffs and losing his chance at the Cup, Ilya struggles with feeling like he deserves a birthday this year. Shane is ready to remind him he deserves love, happiness, and support. AKA: A sweet birthday fic with our favorite married hockey players. Inspired by the song Matilda (Harry Styles) because I'm convinced Ilya listened to it and cried.
