Fics like The Long Way Back

Ianto Jones dies in Jack's arms on the fourth day of the 456, the way he was always going to. The only difference is the stone in his pocket, and the fact that nobody knows about it. Not even Jack. The 456 still comes. The Hub still falls. Jack still pays the terrible price on the fifth day and leaves the Earth broken. But three hundred miles away, in a drawer in a hangar, on the same grey afternoon Jack goes, a heart that stopped in Thames House begins, slowly, to beat again. A dead man starts the long way home to a man who has already left it. (...The bare bones of COE, but my take on it)
