A holiday was the perfect opportunity to pave over any final cracks in their existence together. Remind him of the old sights, delight him with new ones – Crowley would make it so Aziraphale would never talk of the wonders of Heaven again, once and for all. There was no way Heaven or Hell were going to simply let them live out the rest of their days in peace, let alone permanently cancel their apocalyptic plans. No, they needed to carve out a safe haven, an existence for themselves, for as long as they could. And if all of this came with the side-effect that he got to fulfil Aziraphale’s every desire, to keep him by his side, to always hear his voice chattering away into his ear, and never, ever again be met with silence when he called out his name… well, that was just a bonus. --- While Aziraphale is having a small existential crisis about what he’s meant to do now that he’s not receiving instructions from Heaven, all Crowley knows is that he needs to keep the angel on his side. Or, what Crowley was referring to when he said “We’ve spent our existence pretending that we aren’t… well, the last few years not really" -- and what came after.
