Fics like Toulon, 1812

Two men whose lives will become dominated by unjust and lengthy prison sentences meet in the docks of Toulon in the year 1812. One man, Edmond Dantès is but sixteen years old and has quickly been rising through the ranks of the merchant ship the Pharaon in the employ of Monsieur Pierre Morrel. He remains naive of the world but hopeful for the future which seems bright--barring any unusual, Napoleonic misadventures, of course. One man, Jean Valjean, is sixteen years into what has become a nineteen year sentence of hard labor for stealing a loaf of bread. He has become dominated by anger and sees nothing but misfortune lying behind every corner. Perhaps a brief acquaintance between them shall prove interesting.
