Fics like blank slate

Something inside him unfurls like a rose. His shoulders droop and it’s only a matter of time before he starts crying again. She used to really hate it when that happened. He thinks it’s because it’s harder for her to cry and she’s jealous. “Did my life mean anything to you?” He doesn’t even know what he’s asking. Was his life worth it? Did she like him, in the end? His head is starting to hurt. Stratt sucks in a sharp breath. She looks at him for a long time before she nods slowly. She looks away from him and seems to hesitate, opens her mouth then closes it. Finally, she takes a deep breath and looks at him with her piercing and endless eyes. “It was the only thing that mattered for a long time. During those years right after the launch.” Grace can’t keep his eyes on her. He looks down to her hands and sees she’s twisting her fingers together until they’re bloodless.
