Fics like The Dreams We Have as Children

Autumn, 1968. Once destined for Juilliard, piano prodigy Schroeder Felton instead spends his days working at his father's failing gas station, trapped by poverty, family obligation, and the quiet certainty that the life he dreamed of has slipped away. His days blur into mundane work under flicker of florescent lights, discomforted by the knowledge that tomorrow will be just as today. That is until Lucy van Pelt, now a spirited political science student, unexpectedly walks back into his life. What begins as an awkward reunion between old acquaintances gradually forces them to confront the people they have become and the dreams they had as children.
