Fics like The Man Who Claimed to Give Lives Back

“Everyone here is brilliant, and it’s hell.” Edmund Vale has disappeared. He worked in Civilian Transitions at the Turing Trust: the department responsible for turning children used by the state into officially free adults. Mycroft Holmes makes the strategic mistake of sending Sherlock to investigate. The Turing Trust is not exactly a boarding school for brilliant children. It is a semi-clandestine, state-funded institution full of unmanageable, traumatised, funny, dangerous minors who have been trained far too well for their age. Sherlock expected a dirty political case. He did not expect Lena Voss. A collision between Sherlock Holmes, a young woman raised by a state machine, Mycroft in the middle of an administrative disaster, John asking the inconvenient questions, and a building where everyone lies badly — except the children, who lie better.
