Fics like Giving Up is Easy When the Defaults to Survive

"Somewhere in Max’s soul, he knew he was going to die. It was a reasonable feeling if you asked him, Steel thought he was just getting anxious before the big fight, but to be fair the two of them were facing off against a power hungry planet eater of a tyrant and if they failed then Earth would be destroyed. That’s a lot of pressure. Especially when the weapon that he and Steel had spent months looking for and was planning on trying to use, against everyone else’s judgement, was the one who had killed his dad. So no, no one is allowed to tell him that he is being dramatic when he has a sinking feeling in his gut about his own death." Or Right before entering the final battle with Makino, Max wants the chance to say goodbye to his friends. He isn't going to let a botched phone call with Sydney stop him on that endeavor.
