Fics like Unforeseen Circumstances

This wasn't how things were supposed to go. He was supposed to go to the past, give Goku the medicine for the heart virus, warn him about the artificial humans, and come back to a (hopefully) better present. But now all he can do is try his best to actually get to the past while stuck on an alien planet with a damaged time machine and no idea on what he's supposed to do next. ...Be that as it may, Trunks has never been one to give up easily. He'll complete his mission and save his world no matter what stands in his way.
